When it comes to fragrances, Elizabeth Arden’s offerings are nothing short of iconic. They have been a firm favourite across multiple generations of beauty enthusiasts, beloved for their timeless and long-lasting scents, while remaining considerably more affordable than many other luxury perfumes.
One fragrance that has stood the test of time is the Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum, renowned for its captivating spicy and floral scent. While it is already competitively priced at just £45 for 75ml on Amazon, shoppers can currently get their hands on it for even less, with the price slashed to just £19.96.
Despite its wallet-friendly price, the 5th Avenue perfume is an eau de parfum rather than an eau de toilette, meaning it should linger on the skin considerably longer, remaining noticeable hours after application. To get the most out of any fragrance’s staying power, it is always advisable to spritz it onto pulse points such as the wrists, neck and inner elbows, as the warmth generated by these areas helps to continuously release the scent throughout the day.
The fragrance was designed to embody luxury, sophistication and vitality, with elegant scent notes crafted to instil confidence. The 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum opens with top notes of lilac, linen blossom, magnolia, exotic mandarin and bergamot, lending it a fresh and distinctly floral character. As it dries down, middle notes of Bulgarian rose, violet, ylang-ylang, jasmine, Indian tuberose emerge for a more floral character, alongside warm and spicy undertones of peach, clove and nutmeg.
The fragrance ultimately settles into considerably warmer, earthier base notes including Tibetan musk, amber, sandalwood, iris and vanilla. Fragrances featuring a comparable blend of spicy and floral notes include L’Interdit by Givenchy, which marries orange blossom, jasmine and tuberose with vetiver and patchouli. It is also currently discounted across all bottle sizes at Sephora with up to £20 off, reports The Mirror.
Alternatively, fragrance fans could get their hands on Kayali’s Marrakesh in a Bottle Orange Blossom (£80 for 50ml), which combines Turkish rose, pink pepper, orange blossom, bergamot and neroli to create a spicy, aromatic scent that works beautifully alone or layered alongside other fragrances.
Nevertheless, there is no disputing that the 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum is considerably more budget-friendly than these alternatives, and customers have applauded it for both its scent and staying power. One remarked: “My wife’s favourite and a great price.
“This perfume is a bit of a classic now but after many decades of using it we both can highly recommend it. Wife loves wearing it and me, well just love benefiting from the aroma. It’s subtle rather than overwhelming like some other perfumes.”
One satisfied customer enthused: “I have used this perfume many times over the years and despite trying others I’ve always returned to 5th Avenue. It’s a fragrance that suits me but, as always, it’s not right for everyone. The fragrance lasts all day on me.”
Not all Amazon shoppers were quite so enthusiastic, however, with one remarking: “Doesn’t last long. Smell is just mediocre. You can’t differentiate all the notes in the perfume.”
Yet plenty of others were full of praise, with one writing: “I bought this perfume and have been using it for over ten years. It has a clean, elegant, lightly floral scent that’s never overpowering. It smells fresh and classic, and I always come back to it. The fragrance lasts well, and I will definitely continue buying this perfume.”
