Christian Bale Dick Cheney movie biopic Vice is streaming now | Films | Entertainment

Former US Vice President Dick Cheney died yesterday, aged 84, after decades of impacting American conservative politics at the highest level of government.

The polarising architect of the Iraq War was the subject of a controversial and damning 2018 movie biopic, much akin to Oliver Stone’s Nixon.

The Oscar-winning film’s title Vice is just the beginning of the black comedy’s explicitly negative portrayal of President George W Bush’s No 2.

Christian Bale famously gained 40 pounds for the starring role, later thanking Satan for inspiring the part when accepting an award.

Directed, written and produced by Anchorman and The Big Short’s Adam McKay, the highly entertaining satire, full of surreal moments, co-stars Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, Sam Rockwell as Dubya, Tyler Perry as Colin Powell and Jesse Plemons as [spoilers].

Polarising critics upon release, the movie was simultaneously considered one of the best and worst films of the year, going on to be nominated for eight Oscars. Produced by Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell, Vice is streaming now on Lionsgate+ on Amazon Prime Video and is also available to rent for £3.49 or buy for £7.99 on Amazon, Apple TV and more.
