Big Bang Theory star’s ‘beautiful and devastating’ movie is on Netflix | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Netflix has just dropped a touching comedy-drama sure to delight The Big Bang Theory enthusiasts.

Jim Parsons, the comedy titan who immortalised Sheldon Cooper in CBS’s smash-hit The Big Bang Theory over 12 seasons, continues his success with a string of high-profile projects post-series finale in 2019.

Amongst those is Spoiler Alert, a heartfelt dramedy starring Parsons, which just made its UK Netflix debut.

Despite a modest box office showing of $1.4 million (£1.03 million), Spoiler Alert has enchanted critics and viewers in equal measure – boasting a stellar 87 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a whopping 97 percent audience score.

Adapted from Michael Ausiello’s autobiographical memoir, audiences are touting Spoiler Alert as an essential watch for its tender but tragic portrayal of real-life love.

Rotten Tomatoes’ critical consensus hails Spoiler Alert as “a heartwarming, funny and life-affirming story of how Michael and Kit’s relationship is transformed and deepened when one of them falls ill.

“It can be frustratingly uneven, but strong performances from a talented cast help Spoiler Alert stay on the right side of saccharine.”

Google reviews glow with admiration for Spoiler Alert, where one enthusiastic fan wrote: “From the outset, the film is unflinching in its portrayal of reality.

“We are made aware early on that Kit’s life will be cut short, yet this knowledge doesn’t diminish the emotional impact.

“Instead, it enriches our understanding of the depth of their bond. Director Michael Showalter masterfully guides us through their shared moments, blending humor and heartbreak in a way that feels both authentic and raw.”

Another ardent supporter shared: “This movie was amazing. It shows you how beautiful and sudden life can be.

“Shows us to always appreciate and love those around us, and also ourselves. I loved the story that was shown in this film and enjoyed the flashbacks the character had.”

Letterboxd users also heaped on accolades, with a cinephile confessing: “Truly do not remember the last time I cried that hard during a movie.. and after.”

A further viewer enthused: “I really can’t give this anything less than 5 stars.

“The dynamic between Michael and Kit was so lovely. They were so easy to root for so by the time you reach the end you feel like your heart is being ripped from your chest.

“God this was truly equal parts beautiful and devastating.”
