James Bond is a franchise which never gets old and as time goes on, film fans continue to argue over which is the best. With a total of 27 James Bond films, there’s one that’s topped a list as the best of all time. On a list by The Independent, From Russia with Love (1963) was named as the best Bond film of all time.
The film is known for being the second film in the spy series and for starring Sean Connery as Bond. It is based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Ian Fleming. In the film, James Bond is sent to assist in the defection of Soviet consulate clerk Tatiana Romanova in Turkey, where SPECTRE plans to avenge Bond’s killing of Dr. No.
The Independent says: “Connery at his grittiest, production at its suavest. A superb quartet of co-stars: Robert Shaw; Pedro Armendaríz; Daniela Bianchi. Lotte Lenya!
“The whole train section, helped by its Hitchcockian sense of confinement, is a simmering masterclass.
“Only two films into the series, Bond peaked, because the formula fell in step ideally with Fleming.
“Terence Young kept a tight hold on spy thrills that were so classically tailored to Connery’s strengths, it’s as if the script came from Savile Row.”
Many of those involved with the series have claimed that this is their favourite Bond film, including both Sean Connery and Daniel Craig.

Connery appeared in six official Bond films – out of these seven appearances as 007, the actor himself said From Russia with Love is his favourite one.
On IMDB, one film fan wrote: “While most people usually cite Goldfinger as their favorite of the Connery Bond films, I will stick with the second underrated entry in the series.”
