‘Best ever’ crime drama has fans so hooked they ‘never want it to end’ | Films | Entertainment

An “underrated” thriller about a kidnapped teen is climbing the UK Netflix Film charts.

The crime drama features an “outstanding” cast, including a nail-biting performance from Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry.

The IMDb synopsis for the “insanely tense” 2013 thriller directed by Brad Anderson reads: “When a veteran 911 operator takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.”

The Call, which has a surprisingly low 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a higher audience score of 65%, is now streaming on Netflix.

Fans have taken to the review section on Rotten Tomatoes to share their thoughts on the film, with several expressing confusion over why it didn’t have a higher score.

“It’s an underrated gem that deserves more credit than it ever got,” one expressed, as another agreed: “I cannot believe this only got a 43%. This should have deserved at least an 85-90%. Awesome movie!”

“Excellent! Five stars hands down!” as another wrote: “Loved this movie .. Best film I’ve seen in ages and had me hooked so much that I didn’t want it to end.”

“Best thriller movie I have ever seen!!!!!!!!” one person enthused, as another concurred: “Best movie I have ever seen. Fast heart rate throughout all parts of the movie, so much suspense it was very good, the plot.”

One more person wrote: “5 star movie, a role I’ve never seen Halle Berry in before. All cast are outstanding in this thriller centred around the calls that an emergency telephone operator receives…”

However, some viewers weren’t keen on the thriller, with one person writing: “An ok thriller but not recommended.”

“Competent but you know where it is going the entire time. Not a single new idea offered,” another criticised, as one more said: “Suspenseful? Definitely! Believable? Meh, not so much. Definitely a good way to pass the time while doing laundry.”

The Call is available to stream now on Netflix.
