Initially, they were completely baffled as to what had captured their pets’ attention so intensely. Moments later, however, they discovered two tiny kittens nestled inside.
Sharing the heartwarming clip online, the owners wrote: “The girls made quite the discovery this weekend. Good nostrils save lives.”
The footage shows the dogs repeatedly pawing and sniffing near the shed before their owners investigate and realise that the tiny animals had been sheltering there all along.
Viewers were immediately captivated by the rescue, with many joking that the family had unwittingly been selected by the “cat distribution system” – the internet’s light-hearted phrase for unexpectedly becoming a cat owner.
One person commented: “And just like that you now will have two cats to match two dogs.” Another joked: “The cat distribution system has spoken. You’ve been chosen.”
Others, however, expressed concern over whether further kittens might be hiding nearby, or whether the mother cat was still out searching for her young.
One viewer asked: “Are you sure there’s only two kittens?” Another urged the owners to track down the mother, writing: “Oh please find the mum. She’ll be looking for them.”
Fortunately, the owners later confirmed the kittens were swiftly taken to a local woman who would provide them with proper care.
According to the family, the pair are now undergoing health checks, being neutered and receiving veterinary attention to ensure they’re in good health and out of harm’s way.
Many praised the German shepherds for being so intelligent in alerting their owners to the situation. One user said: “What wonderful girls!! Thank goodness they found them!”
And another added: “I am so glad Mya and Liv found kittens. To those kittens, Mya and Liv were God-sent. Wishing kitty best wishes and hope they find a loving home.”
