New British World War 2 film from The King’s Speech director coming to Netflix | Films | Entertainment

Tom Hooper previously won an Oscar for The King’s Speech and is now directing another World War 2 film.

Nineteen Steps is an adaptation of Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown’s debut novel.

Ghostwritten by Kathleen McGurl, the Sunday Times bestseller is inspired by the London wartime experiences of Brown’s grandmother, Nellie Morris, including the 1943 Bethnal Green tube disaster.

The latter was the largest loss of civilian life in the UK during World War 2, when 173 people, including 62 children, were killed in a crush while attempting to enter the London Underground shelter.

The story also sees Nellie navigate through rationing, the Blitz and a romance with an American airman called Ray.

According to Deadline, Brown is producing Nineteen Steps and is expected to star as her grandmother in the upcoming Netflix film. A release date is TBC, but in the meantime, the Eleven actress has two more Netflix movies coming up, including Enola Holmes 3 and rom-com Just Picture It.
